Dirty Kanza Primer

John Williams is hosting this "must do" gravel grinder. Take it from someone with experience, if you want to finish you got to train on what you are going to be racing on. This is a great opportunity to test your rig, experiment on the food that you will be consuming and lastly test your body.

The ride will start at the Council Grove middle school, 706 East Main Street Council Grove, KS 66846-1126. There are 3 places to fill up on supplies, Alma mile 40ish, Eskridge mile 65, and Americus mile around 90ish

Who: Name says it all, plus any Gravel Grinding addicts
What: A pre-ride of part of last year's course including the infamous little Egypt rd.
When: Sunday, May 15, 2011, 8:00 am start.
Where: Council Grove, KS
Why: Come train with a top 10 Trans Iowa finisher

Map is below. Cue sheets will be available.

  1. Ok I'm having trouble mixing my computer and gravel grinding skills. Congrats John on your top 10 Trans Iowa finish !! The primer course says 131 miles and the ride info says 8am - 2pm. LOL I rode from Alma past Eskridge and back last week for 75 miles and averaged 14.3. I'm thinkin' the ride is gonna be more like 9 hrs

  2. Yup, a 15mph avg. would be just under 9 hours. And that's just saddle time. Looks fun, though, so I'm gonna hafta get down there and get in on this. Does anyone have gear recommendations for a 700c single? Can I get over these hills with a 42x18? I guess I'll find out.
